Head of Prevention & Assessment

Up to £58,515- PO10

The London Borough of Waltham Forest is fiercely ambitious. It wants to make sure each and every one of its residents enjoys a quality life in London.

Over the past few years, Waltham Forest has changed drastically as a place. Good schools, great parks, excellent culture facilities, mass regeneration and budding community entrepreneurship are making it a place that people want to call home.

Over that period of time Waltham Forest as a council has also changed drastically, and despite the challenges of austerity the organisation has seen its highest ever levels of resident satisfaction. As funding reductions continue Waltham Forest is creating a council for the future.

Housing is huge on the council’s agenda; to reflect this the housing service is part of Families & Homes Directorate to ensure families are supported to be more resilient and services are joined up. The council sees a strong link between housing, health and social care and is looking for the right people who share this vision.

About the role

You will be responsible for building an efficient, high quality homelessness prevention, advice and assessment service that not only meets statutory requirements but realises our ambitions to support all our most vulnerable residents to find a home.

You will be a creative and motivated leader committed to getting best outcomes for residents in housing need.  Detailed knowledge of homelessness legislation and ability to work with a range of partners and stakeholders is a must, as well as the technical ability to assist in delivering a step change across the whole of Housing Solutions.

Closing date: 30th September 2017

Interview date: Week commencing 9th October 2017

Equal Opportunities

Waltham Forest is a diverse borough where diversity is valued and is integral to both, service delivery and employment of its staff. The Council is proud of its rich mix of communities and as the largest employer in the area, it works hard to respond to the changing needs of its population. We use our statutory duties on race, gender and disability equality and best practice in respect of age, faith and sexual orientation to ensure equality of opportunity in the workplace. The Council is committed to meeting its 4 equality objectives: - Promoting equality of opportunity - Opposing all forms of discrimination, intolerance and disadvantage - Ensuring our workforce reflects the diverse communities of Waltham Forest at all levels. - Providing fair, appropriate, accessible and excellent Services to all. Respecting Diversity is a core Council value. To support the above and reduce the risk of bias in its recruitment activities, the council is operating an anonymous shortlisting process, which hides personal information that can identify individuals until their application has been considered for shortlisting. The council also operates a scheme whereby, for jobs graded up to and including scale SO2, internal candidates are considered first. This includes those candidates who self-identify as having a disability for the purposes of the Disability Confident scheme. For more information, please refer to our recruitment and selection policy
