Vacancy Description

Active Travel Officer

Waltham Forest Council is committed to achieve the Mayor of London target in casualty reduction and reducing road congestion through road safety education, publicity and training and travel awareness activities. To help meet this challenge we are seeking a highly motivated and adaptable individual to join with the complementary measures team as an Active Travel Officer.

The exciting challenges of this role include the delivery of active travel initiatives across Waltham Forest Council, as part of a range of walking and cycling projects to shift a significant proportion of short local car trips to cycling and walking. The post holder will work with key client groups, including pupils at schools/colleges, community groups and local residents and businesses to promote healthy living. It will in particular include walking, cycling training and events and other promotion of objectives for Waltham Forest Council’s 2020 Vision that are based upon those of the Mini-Holland Programme.

With a good standard of education, you will have experience of delivering physical activity or other behaviour change projects, engaging with schools, workplaces and/or community groups and a wide range of partners. You will also be experienced in leading group workshops, organising events and building successful working relationships. Your enthusiasm will be motivational to others and your strong written and verbal communication skills will complement your excellent interpersonal skills. IT literacy is essential as is an understanding of the health benefits of active travel and your commitment to the promotion of sustainable transport.

As the post includes substantive access to children, DSB disclosure clearance is mandatory for this role.
