Scrutiny Officer PO4
Waltham Forest’s Scrutiny Function has ambition – and is a place where you can realise yours.
If you are dedicated and creative with experience in scrutiny or governance, looking to make your mark, develop your career and improve the lives of residents, our forward-thinking Scrutiny Function should be your next career destination.
Join us and share your experiences working with members, senior officers and the Executive to achieve great outcomes for our residents. We are a supportive, challenging and inspirational team, striving towards the shared purpose of achieving high quality governance and accountability for the Council’s priorities.
In return for your hard work, we will give you the time, flexibility and active support you need to make a difference.
We would like applications from qualified and experienced candidates, who have worked within the democratic environment supporting members to do the best for their constituents.
The Scrutiny Officer leads our small scrutiny team within Democratic Services and supports the Council’s scrutiny committees largely independently. Often acting as a liaison between members, residents, partner organisations, the Executive and senior officers; the role requires both the ability to analyse large amounts of information and the integrity and judgement needed to command the respect and confidence of those stakeholders.
Working with stakeholders, the post-holder will develop practical and specific scoping documents to support effective scrutiny reviews. You will bring together expert witnesses, service users and robust evidence to deliver sound, clear reports and recommendations leading to real improvements for residents.
The role involves evening meetings and is offered as a permanent contract.
Equal Opportunities
Waltham Forest is a diverse borough where diversity is valued and is integral to both, service delivery and employment of its staff. The Council is proud of its rich mix of communities and as the largest employer in the area, it works hard to respond to the changing needs of its population. We use our statutory duties on race, gender and disability equality and best practice in respect of age, faith and sexual orientation to ensure equality of opportunity in the workplace. The Council is committed to meeting its 4 equality objectives: - Promoting equality of opportunity - Opposing all forms of discrimination, intolerance and disadvantage - Ensuring our workforce reflects the diverse communities of Waltham Forest at all levels. - Providing fair, appropriate, accessible and excellent Services to all. Respecting Diversity is a core Council value. To support the above and reduce the risk of bias in its recruitment activities, the council is operating an anonymous shortlisting process, which hides personal information that can identify individuals until their application has been considered for shortlisting. The council also operates a scheme whereby, for jobs graded up to and including scale SO2, internal candidates are considered first. This includes those candidates who self-identify as having a disability for the purposes of the Disability Confident scheme. For more information, please refer to our recruitment and selection policy
