Business Growth, Investment & Employment Project Officer PO5

6 months maternity cover - fixed term with possibility of extension, potential secondment opportunity

Waltham Forest, at the heart of East London, is one of the fastest growing areas of the capital with significant areas of development potential, providing an attractive offer to investors, developers and businesses alike. These unprecedented levels of growth have led to significant increases in the number of jobs and businesses being created in the borough. We want to capitalise on the opportunities created by this growth to improve the quality of life for all residents in the borough. This vision is outlined in our Economic Growth Strategy. https://www.walthamforest.gov.uk/content/our-economic-growth-strategy.

This post will have a key responsibility for coordinating activity under our ‘Think Work’ delivery plan with a focus on Construction and Built Environment, which is one of our key growth sectors. This workstream aims to ensure that local people have the skills and ability to benefit from the opportunities emerging as a result of regeneration and to access high quality employment in order to achieve one of our corporate priorities; to improve residents’ life chances.

The post will have responsibility for overseeing the launch of our Advanced TEC Centre, setting up governance structures, maintaining accountability and providing support to develop a curriculum of cutting edge building technology education and training led by the intelligence provided via our relationships with developers and their supply chain.

We are seeking an energetic and experienced regeneration or economic development project manager to join the Employment Business and Skills Service to support the delivery of our ambitions and deliver key employment projects. We are particularly interested in people who may have special interest or experience in developing employment programmes in key growth sectors, working with developers, employers and through procurement and social value processes to unlock employment and training opportunities for local people.

Equal Opportunities

Waltham Forest is a diverse borough where diversity is valued and is integral to both, service delivery and employment of its staff. The Council is proud of its rich mix of communities and as the largest employer in the area, it works hard to respond to the changing needs of its population. We use our statutory duties on race, gender and disability equality and best practice in respect of age, faith and sexual orientation to ensure equality of opportunity in the workplace. The Council is committed to meeting its 4 equality objectives: - Promoting equality of opportunity - Opposing all forms of discrimination, intolerance and disadvantage - Ensuring our workforce reflects the diverse communities of Waltham Forest at all levels. - Providing fair, appropriate, accessible and excellent Services to all. Respecting Diversity is a core Council value. To support the above and reduce the risk of bias in its recruitment activities, the council is operating an anonymous shortlisting process, which hides personal information that can identify individuals until their application has been considered for shortlisting. The council also operates a scheme whereby, for jobs graded up to and including scale SO2, internal candidates are considered first. This includes those candidates who self-identify as having a disability for the purposes of the Disability Confident scheme.
