Regeneration and Growth Directorate

Planning Policy Officer (Local Plans)

Grade SO1-PO3 (£29,766 - £39,774) subject to experience, career graded post.

Waltham Forest is pursuing a challenging agenda for regeneration and growth across the borough over the next few years with a desire to meet demanding housing targets through quality development. We are looking to recruit a Local Plans Officer. This permanent full-time position requires someone with demonstrable knowledge and experience of the plan making process. The post is career graded and the successful candidate will be placed at a level commensurate with qualification, competency and experience, with opportunity to progress.

You will be involved in a range of challenging planning policy work. The Council is preparing a new Local Plan and has recently published a Draft Local Plan for public consultation. As next stage the Council will be preparing the Proposed Submission version of the plan (Regulation 19). The Council seeks highly motivated individuals to support the Local Plan project. You will be responsible for carrying out research on specialist planning topic matters, analysing the results of public consultation, and preparing local plan policies/proposals for further consultation. You will assist in progressing all aspects of the Local Plan work through to examination and adoption. There will be opportunity to work on other planning policy projects including the preparation of supplementary planning documents. You will also provide advice on planning policy and development matters. Experience of work in a local authority planning policy team is desirable. You will be an excellent team player with a flexible and adaptable approach to work. You should be a qualified Town Planner - full member or eligible for full membership of the RTPI.
