Internal Audit Manager – Grade PO6

It is an exciting time to join Waltham Forest, the most recent winner of the prestigious MJ Local Authority of the Year Award and the first London Borough of Culture for 2019.  As well as this bringing a magnificent programme of cultural events and activities to the borough, it will put us on the map and ensure a lasting legacy.  The Council is currently entering a period of extensive investment programme of its assets, including a masterplan for its historic Town Hall and a number of regeneration programmes across the borough, as well as creating more opportunities to empower our residents and boost their life chances.

Vacancy Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced team manager to join our Internal Audit and Anti-Fraud Division to support the Deputy Head of Internal Audit and Anti-Fraud with the operational management of the Internal Audit function.

On a day to day basis, you will manage a small team of in-house staff, deliver your own portfolio of audits and work alongside audit specialists and private sector contractors.  Additionally, you will plan, control and co-ordinate the work required to deliver the agreed Internal Audit plan and objectives to ensure that efficient and effective, quality services are provided to the Council and to enhance the Council’s internal control framework.

The Person

You will have substantial internal audit experience at a senior level, as well as experience of working with senior managers and other key stakeholders, for example, external audit, Members contractors and external partners, ideally in the public sector.

You will be able to lead a small team and delivery high quality end-to-end audits and projects.  You will have the technical experience and expertise to support new developments and major change programmes by providing clear and constructive advice on risk, governance and internal control matters.  Your ability to effectively engage and influence in a constructive manner will therefore be essential, demonstrating the value of a modern and effective internal audit service.

Your experience of undertaking risk-based audits will be matched with a sound knowledge of professional internal audit standards and excellent communication skills.  You will have the ability to present complex information to a wide range of stakeholders and be able to deal tactfully and responsibly with a wide range of people and organisations.

If you are a leader with drive and enthusiasm, we would love to hear from you.

If you have any questions about this role, please contact Kevin Campbell-Scott, Deputy Head of Internal Audit and Anti-Fraud, on 020 8496 4487.
