Compliance Manager
The London Borough of Waltham Forest is committed to Creating Futures, our new Corporate Strategy. This provides a fresh focus and a clear sense of direction. We are fiercely ambitious and strive continuously to make sure each and every one of our residents enjoys a quality life in London.
The health and safety of our residents and workforce is paramount. As a large, complex and diverse organisation, we recognise there are numerous dangerous and potentially hazardous situations.
We recently commissioned an external audit of our health and safety services to provide an independent view on how our service can be improved. The service has now been transferred to our Property and Asset Management function and a new structure has been agreed. They have received considerable investment and there is a risk prioritised action plan in place.
This has created a number of exciting opportunities and is now the ideal time for you to join us.
About the Role
We are currently seeking an ambitious Compliance Manager to join our Facilities Management team. We are looking for a self-motivated and energetic individual who can lead on compliance across the council. Working in the FM client team, you will be responsible for ensuring all of our premises are safe and compliant.
You will provide regular updates on the status of compliance across London Borough of Waltham Forest, implementing rectification programmes when required. Leading on Asset and Compliance, you’ll ensure high levels of performance and customer service - with a particular focus on water, fire, asbestos and mechanical and electrical services.
You’ll work closely with peers and other members of the division to develop innovative solutions and timely, cost-effective best practice. Excellent communication skills are therefore essential.
Above all, you’ll promote a positive Health & Safety culture and environment for employees, service users and the public.
About You
We’re looking for a proactive leader with the drive for achieving great results. You’ll have a strong background in either Health and Safety or Facilities Management, including experience of assessing and undertaking compliance of the built environment. You’ll be IOSH or NEEBOSH trained, with at least a year’s experience managing compliance in a large organisation.
You’ll be a confident communicator and influencer, with expert knowledge, skills and interventions to influence, challenge and achieve our goals.
About us
Over the past few years, Waltham Forest has changed drastically. Good schools, great parks, excellent culture facilities, mass regeneration and budding community entrepreneurship are making it a place that people want to call home.
Waltham Forest as a council has also changed. Despite the challenges of austerity, the organisation has seen its highest ever levels of resident satisfaction. As funding reductions continue, Waltham Forest is creating a council for the future.
Waltham Forest Council is an employer of choice. We offer a huge range of benefits to make working with us more than worthwhile. These include flexible working options, as well as learning and development opportunities to progress your career. In addition, we offer excellent financial benefits, including a defined benefit pension scheme where the Council pays more than double the employee’s contribution towards a pension payable on retirement.
Application arrangements
We wish to make the application process as straightforward as possible, so we just ask that you complete two application questions and attach your CV as further support if you wished too.

Equal Opportunities
Waltham Forest is a diverse borough where diversity is valued and is integral to both, service delivery and employment of its staff. The Council is proud of its rich mix of communities and as the largest employer in the area, it works hard to respond to the changing needs of its population. We use our statutory duties on race, gender and disability equality and best practice in respect of age, faith and sexual orientation to ensure equality of opportunity in the workplace. The Council is committed to meeting its 4 equality objectives: - Promoting equality of opportunity - Opposing all forms of discrimination, intolerance and disadvantage - Ensuring our workforce reflects the diverse communities of Waltham Forest at all levels. - Providing fair, appropriate, accessible and excellent Services to all. Respecting Diversity is a core Council value. To support the above and reduce the risk of bias in its recruitment activities, the council is operating an anonymous shortlisting process, which hides personal information that can identify individuals until their application has been considered for shortlisting. The council also operates a scheme whereby, for jobs graded up to and including scale SO2, internal candidates are considered first. This includes those candidates who self-identify as having a disability for the purposes of the Disability Confident scheme. For more information, please refer to our recruitment and selection policy
