Waltham Forest Housing: Senior Housing Engagement Officer

It’s an exciting time to join us in Waltham Forest. Next year, we will be in the spotlight as the first ever London Borough of Culture for 2019. This accolade will not only bring a magnificent programme of cultural events and activities to the borough, it will put us on the map and ensure a lasting legacy.

Housing is huge on the council’s agenda and to reflect this, the housing service is part of Families & Homes Directorate to ensure families are supported to be more resilient and services are joined up. The council sees a strong link between housing, health and social care and is looking for the right people who share this vision.

About the role

We’re looking for an experienced Senior Housing Engagement Officer to drive forward our busy programme of communication activity, social and digital media campaigns, and stakeholder engagement activity.

You will have responsibility for building the reputation of the Housing Service by developing and delivering a housing communications strategy and plan, generating both traditional and digital communication content to keep Waltham Forest housing customers informed and engaged. Using your experience, you will develop opportunities for tenants and leaseholders to ‘get involved’ and have their say using a range of innovative platforms and methods including digital technology. You will publicise and promote the work of the service to a wide range of audiences using tailored channels.

You will have a strong communication background, preferably in the housing sector and exceptional digital and social media skills. You will have the ability to work in a face-paced environment and have a track record in delivering excellent results.

It is an exciting and dynamic time to be working in Waltham Forest. This role will give the right candidate the opportunity to make a real impact quickly, develop their skills and experience, and have the confidence to bring their creativity and ideas to our ambitious and highly-motivated team.

Equal Opportunities

Waltham Forest is a diverse borough where diversity is valued and is integral to both, service delivery and employment of its staff. The Council is proud of its rich mix of communities and as the largest employer in the area, it works hard to respond to the changing needs of its population. We use our statutory duties on race, gender and disability equality and best practice in respect of age, faith and sexual orientation to ensure equality of opportunity in the workplace. The Council is committed to meeting its 4 equality objectives: - Promoting equality of opportunity - Opposing all forms of discrimination, intolerance and disadvantage - Ensuring our workforce reflects the diverse communities of Waltham Forest at all levels. - Providing fair, appropriate, accessible and excellent Services to all. Respecting Diversity is a core Council value. To support the above and reduce the risk of bias in its recruitment activities, the council is operating an anonymous shortlisting process, which hides personal information that can identify individuals until their application has been considered for shortlisting. The council also operates a scheme whereby, for jobs graded up to and including scale SO2, internal candidates are considered first. This includes those candidates who self-identify as having a disability for the purposes of the Disability Confident scheme.
