Primary Teacher – Special Resourced Provision for Autism

Part-Time (4 days)

Salary:  Up to M6

Are you passionate about making a real difference for children with autism and complex communication needs? South Grove Primary School is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Primary Teacher to join our Special Resourced Provision (SRP) for Autism,

The Nest.

About the Role: You’ll play a key role in leading our experienced SRP team, planning and delivering a highly personalised curriculum using autism-specific strategies and communication systems such as PECS and AAC. You’ll work closely with families, therapists, and support staff to ensure every child thrives—personally, socially, and academically. The role also involves supporting inclusion within the wider school and leading on staff training in autism practice.

We are looking to appoint a passionate, resilient, and highly skilled Teacher to lead and develop our Special Resourced Provision (SRP).

In this role, you will be responsible for a dedicated cohort of pupils with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs)—primarily supporting children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN). You will design and deliver a highly personalised, inclusive curriculum that enables pupils to thrive within the specialist base while gradually supporting them to access mainstream classes where appropriate.

What We Offer:

  • A stable, supportive staff team committed to collaborative working and high-quality teaching and learning
  • Meaningful, relevant CPD tailored to your needs and career progression
  • Staff peer working groups to trial and introduce new initiatives, focused on a balanced workload
  • A highly inclusive school where children are valued, supportive of each other, and actively contribute to school life
  • Strong focus on both wellbeing and academic achievement for every child
  • An experienced and dedicated group of Teaching Assistants within the SRP

What we are looking for:

 Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

  • Experience: Proven experience supporting children with complex special needs, especially those with ASD, and communication needs within a mainstream or special school setting
  • Knowledge: Strong practical understanding of EHCPs, differentiated lesson planning, the EYFS Curriculum and sensory-friendly learning environments, Ideally within an EYFS or special school experience setting
  • Disposition: Empathy, patience, a calm approach to behaviour-as-communication, and a firm belief that every child can achieve.
  • Committed to inclusion and continuous professional development

Safeguarding: South Grove Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. All appointments are subject to a satisfactory completion of safeguarding checks.

Equal Opportunities

Waltham Forest is a diverse borough where diversity is valued and is integral to both, service delivery and employment of its staff. The Council is proud of its rich mix of communities and as the largest employer in the area, it works hard to respond to the changing needs of its population. We use our statutory duties on race, gender and disability equality and best practice in respect of age, faith and sexual orientation to ensure equality of opportunity in the workplace. The Council is committed to meeting its 4 equality objectives: - Promoting equality of opportunity - Opposing all forms of discrimination, intolerance and disadvantage - Ensuring our workforce reflects the diverse communities of Waltham Forest at all levels. - Providing fair, appropriate, accessible and excellent Services to all. Respecting Diversity is a core Council value. To support the above and reduce the risk of bias in its recruitment activities, the council is operating an anonymous shortlisting process, which hides personal information that can identify individuals until their application has been considered for shortlisting. The council also operates a scheme whereby, for jobs graded up to and including scale SO2, internal candidates are considered first. This includes those candidates who self-identify as having a disability for the purposes of the Disability Confident scheme.
