We are seeking to appoint a hardworking, experienced, and skilled colleague to join our pastoral team in the role of Welfare Officer. This is a non-teaching role in which the person appointed will be responsible for providing medical, health, and welfare support to students across the school, ensuring their safety, well-being, and care during the school day.
The main responsibilities of the role are to provide first aid and medical assistance to students as required, manage the administration of prescribed medication, and maintain accurate and confidential medical records. The postholder will also liaise with parents, carers, and external health professionals to ensure students’ medical needs are effectively supported within school. The role requires sensitivity, discretion, and excellent record-keeping in line with safeguarding and data protection policies.
The Welfare Officer will also work closely with the Assistant Headteacher – Head of Pastoral, Heads of Year, and the wider pastoral team to monitor health-related concerns that may impact student attendance, behaviour, or academic progress.
We are looking for applicants who have the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and external agencies. The successful candidate will be organised, compassionate, and capable of responding effectively to medical incidents and emergencies while supporting the overall well-being of our students.
Highams Park School is a highly successful 11-18 comprehensive school serving its local community.
