About the role:
To provide specialist professional emergency planning and business continuity advice, support, and guidance in order ensure the London Borough of Waltham Forest is resilient to, and prepared for emergencies and planned events, and the emergency and business continuity planning, response and recovery is effective.
The postholder will work as part of the Contingency Planning Team, responsible for the coordination, development and delivery of the London Borough of Waltham Forest's emergency planning, business continuity and response arrangements in compliance with the Civil Contingencies Act (2004) and other related legislation and guidance.

Key Responsibilities:
- Proven experience of working in emergency planning / resilience / civil protection (in a Local Authority setting is desirable).
- Experience of preparing and delivering training and exercises
- Experience of writing emergency and contingency plans
- Experience in effective partnership and inter-agency working.
- Experience of responding to emergencies.
- Significant knowledge of emergency planning and business continuity legislation, guidance, and standards.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, adaptable to a range of audiences.
- Ability to build positive relationships with partners, working collaboratively and constructively with London Borough of Waltham Forest colleagues and wider Resilience Forum partners in multi-disciplinary and multi-agency projects.
- An ability to deliver clear well thought out written briefings and reports, taking complex material and delivering it in a coherent manner.
- Ability to work to deadlines, to prioritise and to manage a range of tasks at once.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Motivated, energetic, determined and the ability to work calmly in a fast moving and pressured environment, sometimes in difficult and challenging situations.
- Ability to attend the Emergency Control Centre in times of emergency, at short notice, and outside normal working hours.
- A valid UK driving licence.
Qualifications and Requirements:
To be considered for this position, you should meet the following requirements:
- Degree (or equivalent) in emergency planning, crisis or disaster management or other relevant professional qualification or substantial experience working in emergency planning / business continuity.
- Membership of a relevant professional body such as the Emergency Planning Society (EPS) or Business Continuity Institute (BCI) or equivalent is desirable.
- Evidence of continuing professional development.
- Certificate of Business Continuity Institute (CBCI) is desirable.
