Walthamstow Public Mortuary is currently in the final stages of a multi-million pound renovation and will become the East London Forensic Centre from November 2023. Whilst primarily handling sudden deaths that have been referred to H M Coroner for East London, it will also receive and care for people from other Coroner’s Services.

The new forensic centre will be one of the most progressive Mortuary Services in London and the first to see the introduction of routine Post-Mortem Computerised Tomography (PMCT) into the workflow. The new Post-Mortem Imaging Service will provide post-mortem MDCT scanning with radiological reporting via a Picture Archiving Communication System (PACS).

We are therefore expanding our workforce by recruiting a full-time Lead Radiographer to support the new service. This post offers a unique and exciting opportunity for a dynamic, experienced, well-motivated radiographer to commission and develop the first dedicated post-mortem CT scanning service in the London region.

Working closely with the mortuary manager and overseeing a small team, the successful applicant will supervise the day-to-day running of the PMCT service in accordance with relevant legislations, regulations, and policies. The role also offers opportunities for the successful applicant to develop their clinical teaching and research skills as the centre is planning to partner with a number of educational providers to offer training and research opportunities.

Applicants are invited to tour the facility and meet the team in advance of the interview stage especially if they’ve not worked in a mortuary setting before. Please email Jahran.Allen-Thompson@walthamforest.gov.uk to arrange this and ask questions.

The council provides East London Forensic Centre for His Majesty's Coroner for the Eastern Area of Greater London and will be licensed by the Human Tissue Authority.

We expect all our staff to share the values that are important to the local authority - being efficient, kind, responsible and respectful - and behave in a way that reflects these. Please note that this vacancy may close before the advertised closing date if sufficient applicants are received.

Please check your email regularly as all candidates shortlisted for interview will be contacted and informed by email. If you are appointed to the post, as part of your pre-employment check we will be required to verify your identity and perform a DBS Check. The document/s you present for this purpose will be checked for their authenticity by scanning all known security features.

We will also be required to obtain satisfactory, written references. Please ensure that the referee details which you provide on your application form are correct. We require at least one written reference from your current or most recent line manager. We are only able to accept references from a professional work email address.

The post holder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975.
