There is a real buzz about our corner of London.

Our distinctive culture-led approach to economic growth and regeneration is driving one of the fastest growing local economies in London. We are intensely ambitious for Waltham Forest, investing in the Borough’s future, and creating a legacy that will benefit our residents for years to come.

Our Economic Growth and Housing Delivery Directorate is at the heart of delivering the Council’s ambitions for economic and housing growth, both directly and indirectly, through our plans, services and, most importantly, our focus on delivery.

As Principal Commercial Surveyor, you will help deliver a high quality and professional property advisory service for the division, providing commercial advice on the property aspects of our major strategic projects, linking in with our Regeneration and Planning teams to help shape new development in our key growth areas and taking a lead role in bringing forward development opportunities for the Council.

About Waltham Forest

Just 20 minutes from the City of London and the West End and with over 500 acres of blue and green space including Europe’s largest urban wetland at Walthamstow Wetlands and Epping Forest, “London’s Great Forest”, we are well placed to deliver our ambitions for new neighbourhoods.

Our Economic Growth and Housing Delivery Directorate is responsible for most of the Council’s £550million Capital Programme that is delivering new school places, new homes and affordable housing, community and cultural venues, transport infrastructure, economic growth and regeneration, and new neighbourhoods including a new community as part of the transformation of our iconic Town Hall Campus.

Our values demonstrate our approach as a Council; be radical, make and create, and act with fellowship. You will embody these behaviours, have a compelling track record of success and the proven ability to work collaboratively to deliver our ambitious growth plans and transformational projects.

About the Role

You will be taking a lead role, supporting the Director of Commercial Estate & Investment, in delivering a best in class and professional asset management and property advisory service.

You will carry out a variety of work, mainly focussed on investment, development and strategic development and regeneration projects, including development appraisals, site reviews and options appraisals, acquisitions and disposals, and senior stakeholder management to ensure the Council is making the most, commercially and socially from its projects and investments.

You will work collaboratively to deliver commercial and socio-economic outcomes as part of our project delivery, and provide high quality commercial and general property advice to other services within the directorate and Council.

Equal Opportunities

Waltham Forest is a diverse borough where diversity is valued and is integral to both, service delivery and employment of its staff. The Council is proud of its rich mix of communities and as the largest employer in the area, it works hard to respond to the changing needs of its population. We use our statutory duties on race, gender and disability equality and best practice in respect of age, faith and sexual orientation to ensure equality of opportunity in the workplace. The Council is committed to meeting its 4 equality objectives: - Promoting equality of opportunity - Opposing all forms of discrimination, intolerance and disadvantage - Ensuring our workforce reflects the diverse communities of Waltham Forest at all levels. - Providing fair, appropriate, accessible and excellent Services to all. Respecting Diversity is a core Council value. To support the above and reduce the risk of bias in its recruitment activities, the council is operating an anonymous shortlisting process, which hides personal information that can identify individuals until their application has been considered for shortlisting. The council also operates a scheme whereby, for jobs graded up to and including scale SO2, internal candidates are considered first. This includes those candidates who self-identify as having a disability for the purposes of the Disability Confident scheme.
