  • Are you an excellent communicator, skilled in building relationships and developing networks?

Walthamstow School for Girls is excited to offer a ‘once in a career’ opportunity for an exceptional candidate: working as a Deputy Headteacher in our outstanding comprehensive school and leading system-wide change as the Director of the North East London Teaching School Hub.  We are looking for someone who has led across several schools, for example through an instrumental role in a Teaching School, MAT, local authority or similar context.  You will be an experienced leader, either a DHT looking for a second Deputy role prior to headship, or an experienced AHT who is ready for a challenging career move.  You will have a strong track record of impact in your current role and will be ready to share your experience of what exceptional progress and outcomes look like so that you can challenge our school community to improve further.

Your role at WSFG will be as Deputy Headteacher, leading on KS4 and the Curriculum.  You will join the new Headteacher and other new leaders on our expanded SLT, to take the school forward on the next phase of its journey.  This will include opportunities to develop leadership amongst staff and students through coaching and devolved leadership; promote KS4 pastoral care, including for our most vulnerable students; lead on the curriculum and assessment through evidence-informed practice, including ensuring that the curriculum reflects the diversity of our school community.

Walthamstow School for Girls is a wonderful place to work, learn, teach and lead.  We are passionate about education being a vehicle for promoting equality for all and our mission is to empower young women to become leaders of the future.  We are a truly comprehensive school, proud of our diversity and committed to social justice.  Although we are an Outstanding School (Ofsted, 2018), achieve exceptional outcomes and have consistently been in the top 10% of schools nationally for progress, our focus is on developing exceptional young women, not just on academic achievement.

In your role as Director of the North East London Teaching School Hub, you will be responsible for the delivery of the ECF, NPQs, CPD and ITT, supported by the Headteacher as Strategic Lead, as well as an excellent team, including an Assistant Director, two Project Managers and an administrator.  Key systems, structures and personnel have been established during the summer term and there are strong. collaborative relationships with schools and organisations across Haringey, Redbridge and Waltham Forest.  We now require someone with the experience, vision and drive to ensure that the Hub meets its ambitious goal of ensuring that every child in our area has a great teacher who unlocks their potential and inspires them on a journey of lifelong learning.

We envisage that there will be a great deal of interest in this unique and exciting role.   We would be delighted to welcome you to the school for a tour and an opportunity to meet with the Headteacher to discuss your application. If you would like to arrange a visit, please contact Mandy Madhani, Human Resources Manager, on 020 8509 9447.

Equal Opportunities

Waltham Forest is a diverse borough where diversity is valued and is integral to both, service delivery and employment of its staff. The Council is proud of its rich mix of communities and as the largest employer in the area, it works hard to respond to the changing needs of its population. We use our statutory duties on race, gender and disability equality and best practice in respect of age, faith and sexual orientation to ensure equality of opportunity in the workplace. The Council is committed to meeting its 4 equality objectives: - Promoting equality of opportunity - Opposing all forms of discrimination, intolerance and disadvantage - Ensuring our workforce reflects the diverse communities of Waltham Forest at all levels. - Providing fair, appropriate, accessible and excellent Services to all. Respecting Diversity is a core Council value. To support the above and reduce the risk of bias in its recruitment activities, the council is operating an anonymous shortlisting process, which hides personal information that can identify individuals until their application has been considered for shortlisting. The council also operates a scheme whereby, for jobs graded up to and including scale SO2, internal candidates are considered first. This includes those candidates who self-identify as having a disability for the purposes of the Disability Confident scheme.
