Bursting with culture, energy, and opportunity, Waltham Forest is a place where people want to live, raise a family, and start a business. It’s also a fantastic place to work, as we do all we can to improve the lives of residents and maintain the borough’s reputation as an attractive place to visit and invest in. We’re looking for candidates with initiative, resolve and creativity to help us build on our successes as the Mayor of London’s first-ever London Borough of Culture and so expectations, confidence and ambitions are high.

We are looking for people to join the Culture and Heritage team with a range of skills and experience that add to and complement the existing team’s expertise.  Our focus is to ensure that Waltham Forest continues to grow as a borough of culture where diversity flourishes.  Supporting and empowering our local artists, creative sector and communities to deliver inclusive, relevant and high-quality cultural activities, we also work closely with our colleagues in economic growth to boost the reopening of our high streets, deliver longer term cultural infrastructure projects and connect people to jobs.  We need to ensure we achieve all of this in a sustainable way by maximising our commercial opportunities and responding effectively to the climate emergency.

The culture and heritage team is responsible for delivering a high quality and inclusive arts and events programme. This includes the award-winning William Morris Gallery, Vestry House Museum and a range of innovative cultural projects across the borough. You will plan and deliver marketing campaigns to promote exhibitions, events and fundraising opportunities across traditional and digital channels, working closely with colleagues in the culture and heritage team to maximise attendance and income, develop new audiences and enhance the profile of Waltham Forest Culture.

You will bring experience of planning and delivering marketing activity that has effectively engaged diverse audiences, locally, nationally and internationally. Strong digital skills, including social media and email marketing, are essential; experience of creating video and audio content would be advantageous. You will be a great copywriter, capable of writing about culture in an accessible and compelling way. While your marketing expertise won’t necessarily have been gained within a cultural organisation, you will have a passion for museums and the arts and a drive to share the borough’s cultural assets with the widest possible audience. You will have excellent organisational skills and the ability to operate to tight deadlines in highly pressured environments.

Waltham Forest Council recognises that diversity is a strength and what people bring through their personal experiences, background and identity significantly enhances our ability to deliver to our staff and residents. Therefore, we would particularly welcome applications from individuals with a Black, Asian or other ethnic minority background, those who identify as disabled and individuals from the LGBTQI+ community.

In your application, please make sure you show how you can meet the job specific accountabilities and demonstrate the experience required. Interviews are planned for the week beginning 19 July. For further information or a discussion, please contact Lorna Lee lorna.lee@walthamforest.gov.uk

Equal Opportunities

Waltham Forest is a diverse borough where diversity is valued and is integral to both, service delivery and employment of its staff. The Council is proud of its rich mix of communities and as the largest employer in the area, it works hard to respond to the changing needs of its population. We use our statutory duties on race, gender and disability equality and best practice in respect of age, faith and sexual orientation to ensure equality of opportunity in the workplace. The Council is committed to meeting its 4 equality objectives: - Promoting equality of opportunity - Opposing all forms of discrimination, intolerance and disadvantage - Ensuring our workforce reflects the diverse communities of Waltham Forest at all levels. - Providing fair, appropriate, accessible and excellent Services to all. Respecting Diversity is a core Council value. To support the above and reduce the risk of bias in its recruitment activities, the council is operating an anonymous shortlisting process, which hides personal information that can identify individuals until their application has been considered for shortlisting. The council also operates a scheme whereby, for jobs graded up to and including scale SO2, internal candidates are considered first. This includes those candidates who self-identify as having a disability for the purposes of the Disability Confident scheme.
