Regeneration in Waltham Forest

Waltham Forest Council is at the forefront of regeneration in London, with positive and sustainable housing, workspace, health, education, culture, leisure and transport infrastructure and public realm improvements being delivered across the borough.  The Council has an ambitious pipeline to deliver 27,000 new homes and 46,000m2 workspace across the borough by 2035. 

In response to the Covid-19 crisis, the Council is implementing an Economic Recovery Plan, including specific action plans to support the recovery and resilience of our High Streets. Working with residents, businesses and stakeholders we are demonstrating that Waltham Forest is Open for Business and taking the opportunity to reimagine our town centres to ensure they will be fit for the future.

This role will be key in developing and implementing our High Street Action Plans and delivering on our 15-minute neighbourhood ambitions for the borough’s two largest town centres – Walthamstow and Leytonstone - working within the Area Regeneration and Business Growth & Investment teams and alongside other Council departments, elected members and external stakeholders to coordinate the programme of economic recovery.

The person we need

The Town Centre Engagement and Activation Officer will be responsible for supporting the implementation of the High Street Action Plans for these two key town centres building cross-departmental relationships as well as those with residents, businesses and other partners required to deliver the ambitious recovery and activation plans.

The role will support the coordination of physical, cultural, business and creative place-making regeneration projects, delivering good growth with significant benefits for businesses and residents.

You will need to have a strong commitment not just to engaging residents, businesses and community groups, but to working closely with them to deliver sustainable regeneration projects which aid the recovery of our two largest town centres.

We are looking for a candidate who has excellent community engagement and project management experience who will take a collaborative, flexible and innovative approach to develop, manage and implement business investment and regeneration projects in Leytonstone and Walthamstow town centres.
