Senior Practitioner - Corporate Parenting Service.

Waltham Forest has changed the way that we work with Looked After Children. At a time when many social work agencies are making big cuts, we believe that if we work better together, we can improve the outcomes of Looked After Children and save our money by not wasting it.

Our Corporate Parenting Service pulls together the casework and the provision to focus on permanence for every Looked After Child. We operate a Group Supervision model within each team, called Practice Support Groups (PSG), where children and young people aged 0-18 years are the focus, this has the effect of reducing the transfers and handovers that children and their families hate. The focus on a Systemic Approach, with relationship-based social work at its heart, supports social workers and promotes the reflective practice. This is a good time to join us.

We have a number of roles in the Corporate Parenting Service (Advanced Practitioner, Senior Practitioner, Social Worker) that we would wish to fill with committed and enthusiastic practitioners who want to make a difference for children. We are dedicated to high quality relationship-based social work, that is child-centered, family-minded, strengths and evidence-based, outcome-focused and fair. We are looking for outstanding practitioners with a passion for direct work, and for supporting others.  In return, we will support you with training, reflective supervision, clinical advice and support, small teams and manageable caseloads, administrative support.

Working within the Practice Support Groups, your skills and experience as a social worker in frontline and Looked After Children will give you a strong practice base that helps keep the focus on achieving outcomes.

We offer a competitive pay package, generous pension, annual leave starting from 28 days, opportunities for flexible working, investment in your learning and development as well as a commitment to your wellbeing.

Waltham Forest supports a model of flexible working, providing the necessary IT so staff can work from any location that meets the needs of the vulnerable people we support.

We offer an annual retention bonus of £3,000, subject to conditions.

Equal Opportunities

Waltham Forest is a diverse borough where diversity is valued and is integral to both, service delivery and employment of its staff. The Council is proud of its rich mix of communities and as the largest employer in the area, it works hard to respond to the changing needs of its population. We use our statutory duties on race, gender and disability equality and best practice in respect of age, faith and sexual orientation to ensure equality of opportunity in the workplace. The Council is committed to meeting its 4 equality objectives: - Promoting equality of opportunity - Opposing all forms of discrimination, intolerance and disadvantage - Ensuring our workforce reflects the diverse communities of Waltham Forest at all levels. - Providing fair, appropriate, accessible and excellent Services to all. Respecting Diversity is a core Council value. To support the above and reduce the risk of bias in its recruitment activities, the council is operating an anonymous shortlisting process, which hides personal information that can identify individuals until their application has been considered for shortlisting. The council also operates a scheme whereby, for jobs graded up to and including scale SO2, internal candidates are considered first. This includes those candidates who self-identify as having a disability for the purposes of the Disability Confident scheme.
