Waltham Forest Council has been leading the way in active and sustainable travel across London over the last few years. This is largely thanks to £27M funding from Transport for London which has allowed us to transform some of our neighbourhoods, town centres and main routes into greener, healthier, more attractive places while also making them easier, safer and more convenient to get around by foot, bike and public transport. We intend to build on this success over the next few years with a number of new exciting projects and programmes either underway or in the pipeline.

We are looking for a dynamic and experienced engagement officer to support the development, co-ordination, management and delivery of strategic engagement plans for a wide range of highway infrastructure and behaviour change projects aimed at encouraging active and sustainable travel borough wide.

A proven background with demonstrable ability are essential in developing and delivering multiple engagement, communications and publicity programmes simultaneously, including public consultations, community workshops, surveys and community events.

The successful candidate will be proficient in supporting a demanding engagement work programme, able to work autonomously, and will able to influence and motivate a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders to achieve the objectives of the programmes. Work will be predominantly based at Low Hall Depot with opportunities to liaise with stakeholders externally.

The Council is proud of its rich mix of communities and as the largest employer in the area, it works hard to respond to the changing needs of its population. We use our statutory duties on race, gender and disability equality and best practice in respect of age, faith and sexual orientation to ensure equality of opportunity in the workplace. The Council is committed to meeting its 4 equality objectives: - Promoting equality of opportunity - Opposing all forms of discrimination, intolerance and disadvantage - Ensuring our workforce reflects the diverse communities of Waltham Forest at all levels. - Providing fair, appropriate, accessible and excellent Services to all. To support the above and reduce the risk of bias in its recruitment activities, the council is operating an anonymous shortlisting process, which hides personal information that can identify individuals until their application has been considered for shortlisting. The council also operates a scheme whereby, for jobs graded up to and including scale SO2, internal candidates are considered first. This includes those candidates who self-identify as having a disability for the purposes of the Disability Confident scheme.
